Destra Garcia Due This Month

This year Carnival Destra is due to give birth, she is currently taking things slowly instead of her usual hectic rehearsals that would normally be taking place now for the upcoming 2010 Carnival season.

Compared to last year, Destra is now looking at a very different Carnival season with a new baby girl due on the 15^th January.

  “I’ll be there in spirit” was the message Destra had for all her fans in the approach of Carnival 2010 season. She was also quoted as saying “I’ve never been so happy in my life. I’m also scared and excited, but I can’t stop smiling and for the first time I’m speechless.’

Destra is currently on standby with her baby bag in the car, she also said the baby room is ready and she has decorated it pink.

Destra said she also feels very humbled and uplifted by promoters and the fans that have said they will miss her in the Carnival season. Even more heartening, was the fact a tribute song was recorded in honour by the artiste Fernanda titled ’Destra’s Baby’.

’By the time Carnival rolls around in February I expect to be fully taken up with the baby, but I’ll be there in spirit because I am part of Carnival, and yes I will feel a pang when I see the fetes on television or the photos on the papers but this is precious bonding time and it’s all about what is best for the child. It won’t make sense to rush back on stage especially since I’ve put on about 50 pounds, so the fans won’t see me until I’ve lost the weight,’ she laughed.

Destra has not left fans disappointed this carnival She has released music for Carnival 2010. She wrote the lyrics for two pan songs, which will be performed for Panorama by Courts Laventille Sounds Specialists - ‘Surrender’, and ’Rewind’ for NLCB Fonclaire - respectively. These are collaborations with the music of Junior ’Ibo’ Joseph and arrangement by Mark Loquan and Ken ’Professor’ Philmore.

Destra’s contribution for 2010 is ’Fireworks’ which was released back in November 2009.
