Levi Roots running for Mayor of London!

Posted: 12th Sep 2009

Keith Valentine Graham better known as Levi Roots is a Reggae Musician, Chef and the highly acclaimed Dragon’s Den participant. Back in 2007 he was invited onto the BBC show Dragon’s Den where he famously sang about his Reggae Reggae Sauce and has become to date the most famous applicant.

Levi walked away with an investment that he wanted in order to launch the sauce commercially. He gained the support of two of the entrepreneurs on the show and the journey began from there.

I quickly learned of Levi Roots like the most of us from his wide spread fame after appearing on Dragon’s Den, but after the show it became apparent that Levi’s success has meant he has become a spokesperson for both Caribbean cuisine as well as an entrepreneurship amongst the black community.

So when I walked pass Waterstone’s in Ealing to see that the man himself will be there signing his new booking entitled “Caribbean food made easy” I quickly made a note of the date.

I headed into Waterstone’s to buy myself a copy of the brand new book, as I stood waiting to purchase the book I heard an applause as the whole shop greeted Levi as he walked in. So I quickly took up the chance to have a quick chat with Levi Roots whilst he signed my book.

Tempo: what will be your next venture after the book launch?

Levi Roots: I will be looking to run for Mayor of London!

Tempo: I stupidly said really! I was taken back thinking this couldn’t possibly be, but why couldn’t he?

Levi Roots: yes I will run for Mayor, and I hope you enjoy the book!

So not only is the man an entrepreneur and a much-admired Chef, we could quite possibly find Levi Roots running for the Mayor of London in the very near future.

Whether it’s making Caribbean food or running for Mayor, he’s certainly got my vote!

Levi has a new BBC2 show Caribbean Food Made Easy on BBC2, with a book of the same name currently out in shops to buy nationwide. The show follows Levi as he travels the UK and Jamaica demonstrating easy ways to cook Caribbean food at home and if you want to catch Levi Roots, he is currently on a book signing tour on the following dates:

  • Monday Sept 14th between 12 and 1pm at Waterstone's in High Wycombe and Costco in Watford between 2 and 3pm

  • Wed Sept 16th at WH Smith in Croydon between 12.20pm and 2pm then at Borders in Brighton between 6 and 6.45pm

  • Thursday Sept 17th between 12 and 1pm at Waterstone in Basingstoke and at Waterstone's in Reading Oracle between 2 and 3pm then at Topping between 7.30pm and 9pm.

  • Friday September 18th at Stanford’s in Bristol between 12 and 1pm, Waterstone's in Cribbs Causeway between 2 and 3pm then at Borders in Cardiff between 6 and 7pm
