"Leader of the old school"
DJ Fats originally hails from San Juan in Trinidad. He moved to the UK in 1962, just before Independence and started deejaying in a club in London in 1964, at the height of ska fever and just as rocksteady was beginning to come on the scene.
In Fats 1977 started playing soca with Mangrove during Notting Hill Carnival. He co-founded First Beat with Esmond Bunsie in 1996 and together they have been producing soca music with artists from London, Trinidad and the US.
